i have always enjoyed reason for music composition and have used the software as a producer for the hollywood music in media awards. now with record, there is an added dimension. i wouldn’t be so fast to advise the creative community to choose record over Logic or ProTools, but would say that record is definitely a staple tool for your producer kit! nothing compares to the software instruments that reason delivers and the fidelity and overall punch from the digital mixdown. as a music producer, you could spend a million dollars on software alone! reason is a solid choice for music producers and independent bands or songwriters and a great resource for live dance DJ’s or trance producers

I tried the demo to Record for a couple of months, (fully functional, except you can’t open what you save till you buy it).
I have used Pro-Tools, SONAR 8 and always had latency, CPU resource hogging of audio drop out issues with those programs.
Record is not demanding on your system so it runs great, (anyone who has used “Reason” knows that already).
I can even use a crappy Sound Blaster card with it!
Record does not support DX, RTAS or other plug ins you may be used to using with other DAWs, but Record has it’s own which I think can achieve the same basic results.
My only beef? No MIDI OUT as of now. Thousands of people are raising their voices about this on Propellerhead’s website and perhaps a new downloadable patch will fix that for those of us who own great real synths and want to sequence them with Record.
There also is no support for video, (I’ll still have to use SONAR for film/video scoring, unless I want to blindly score to a SMPTE cue sheet, YIKES!)
If you simply want to record audio (I record live groups around town all the time) then this is perfect!
The ID8 virtual instrument sounds pretty good and I will be using it to lay down temp tracks for real musicians to later replace.
If you have Reason, then this will combine all the instruments and effects into one program.
If you do not have Reason, go ahead and buy the combo pack, saves you sone cash and fills out Records capabilities.
I have recorded a couple of sessions on this so far and it has not crashed, locked up, dropped audio or anything like that at all!
I run both my desktop and laptop on XP Pro SP3 (I don’t see any reason to getting Vista or Win 7 when XP is faster).

This is an absolute must have for Reason users that always wished they could record voices and instruments. I was one of the beta testers and I couldn’t believe the versatility and stability of this software. I have been used this software everyday for the last two weeks or more. I’m also a Mac user and the instruments look even cooler in Record. I had stopped using ProTools and moved all my operations to Record. For one, he fact that I can easily zoom in on any track without having to press five different keys is a great help for workflow. Also, I love the new possibilities to implement the vocoder with tracks previously recorded. Needless to say, it opened all my old songs from Reason in a breeze and continued working where I left, making it sound even better. If you are a Reason user and spend a great deal of time tweaking tracks, this is a natural step to follow.

Propellerhead Record is a near-perfect home studio system. I had been using Reason 3.0 for a while and always hated that to make edits I had to go back and forth between my Akai recording workstation and my computer with Reason on it. Now that they reside together, cross-platform edits are done in 20 seconds instead of half an hour. In fact, the Record-Reason software is one single software now, so you can use all the Reason effects on your live tracks.
One note is that if you have Reason 3 or earlier, you do not need to buy Reason 4. It is included in this Record for Reason owners. It took a while to get it properly registered on the Propellerhead website and in the USB key that is needed to run Record, but it eventually worked.
I am using it in an iMac 3.06 GHz 27″ computer with a TC Electronic Konnekt 6 analog-to-firewire guitar/mic preamp. It is running perfectly, with 96 KHz live sampling, and no latency from my MIDI keyboard.TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 24Bit/192kHz Firewire Desktop Audio Interface, 2In/2Out Plus Headphone Out, Reverb and Volume Control

Propellerhead has put together a great package here. If you are already a Reason owner, at $149 it is a must buy.
This is truly the best ‘all-in-one’ in my opinion. I am especially impressed with how well it handles CPU, making it a great tool on the road with a laptop. No need to bring the external hard drive with the 150 GB plug-in library, it all lives in this extremely efficient software. People will bemoan the proprietary nature of Record, but that is exactly what makes this thing tick.
