Linux Video Editing Software – What an Open Source Sony Vegas Looks Like
This quick tutorial will teach you how to put together a video complete with titles, transitions and effects! It’s easy to learn the basics of video editing, especially in Linux! The program I used is called Kdenlive, It’s like Sony Vegas, except it’s free and open-source! www.kdenlive.org

@ChangeOurSociety I am trying wmv. I know i can take it and transcode it but i find when i do that there is a risk of Audio still getting out of sink.
I did reinstall Kdenlive but is is still crashing. The program looks like the best Linux video editor i have seen so far. But it is a shame i still have to use windows to work with wmv files

@ChangeOurSociety Cool, I will have to give it another try. I agree that it is probably one of the best/easiest video editors for Linux.

@bluelava12 it can go on any system if its in the repository. Go into the terminal and use the command “sudo apt-get install kdenlive”

@Exodus0429 Sony Vegas is pretty good, I like Sony Vegas 8 when I’m editing in Winblows, plus it runs OK in WINE.

@devo85x If you are looking for anything simpler than kdenlive (anything simpler would be near useless), you should check out Pitivi at pitivi.org , think of Pitivi as the Movie Maker of Linux.

@seganerd89 What video codec is the video? I find mp4 and wmv to be less cooperative compared to mkv, ogv, flv and avi.

@ElDiPablo Kdenlive 0.7.7.1 is a lot less buggier than previous versions, it has gotten better.

@ottawaoctane You will need to completely remove kdenlive and going into terminal and type “sudo apt-get install kdenlive” or if you are using Ubuntu you can use the Ubuntu Software Center or Synaptic Package Manager
