iOS 4.0 on 3G iPhone (parody)
As a generally happy Apple customer, I bought two 2G iPhones on the first day they hit the market (one for myself and one for my romantic partner at the time). When the 3G came out, I bought that model too. The first iPhone captivated the world because the interface was so well done, so snappy, so interactive; it was like nothing before it. Of course it was, it was an Apple product. That, right there, is why I buy Apple products. And I didn’t even mind that it was missing “copy and paste,” MMS, ringtones, etc — because I knew Apple would eventually get to these through software updates. And eventually they did. Unfortunately they kept coming out with new phones. With faster processors. And they wrote all their software updates for these phones, with little attention to deprecated models. I don’t really use third party software on my phones, I honestly don’t even use ringtones. I just use my phone for SMS, web, maps, and occasionally as an actual phone, so the 3G model was more than I ever needed. Except over time, it’s fulfilled my needs less and less. And it’s not because my needs have grown. It’s not because I’ve installed a bunch of laggy software. It’s because Apple’s firmware has become bloated, with respect to the processing power of the 3G iPhone. I just installed iOS 4 two weeks ago, and at this point, I’d be happy to roll back to the first firmware I ever had, just to have that original speed again; forget about the copy and paste, I don’t need it that badly. So …

@jimthorstad the 2g is not compatible with ios 4

Great parody. I have a 2g but don’t plan to upgrade it to os4 for that very reason. It is a great game platform for the kids and it plays videos well. I have ios4 on my 3GS and it’s great!

Exactly like my phone.

@opcenter I envy you. How’s the Droid (aka iPhone killer that can actually make calls)?
July 25th, 2010 at 12:42 am
@ThinkingTechnology Well, you could root and install 2.2 right now…
July 25th, 2010 at 1:34 am
@AhmedAltima08 It runs fine on a 3GS, but the 3G uses a slower CPU. It’s an absolute pig on a 3G.

BTW the DFU restore helps… for about 2 hours. Just downgrade to 3.1.3 with iRecovery.
July 25th, 2010 at 2:54 am
Although I agree it runs like crap Apple don’t force you to upgrade. Anyway i just wish my MyTouch 3G would get a single update,,,still stuck on shitty Android 1.6

@shadowtroop121 oh, I didn’t know that. I DO know that apple’s coding has been hella lazy since leopard though. I was running tiger on a ’98 green imac without any problems until last year, when its power supply burned out. ~5 years on an OS that it was never meant to run! I doubt today’s macs will be able to run OS 10.9 or OS11, at the rate that Apple’s software quality is slipping.

@soundmangler That took you five hours? Sheesh. How hard is it to download an ipsw file and alt-click a Restore button?
July 25th, 2010 at 5:11 am
Wow that was absolutely hilarious. Not 2 mention shameful.
July 25th, 2010 at 5:30 am
Seems a lot better on 4.0.1 though, no?
July 25th, 2010 at 5:32 am
I have the same problem. I wish I never upgraded.
July 25th, 2010 at 5:46 am
@cavalier777 Wrong. When you use the same feature provided via jailbreak, it’s still fast on a 3g. It’s the fact that apple’s code is inefficient.
July 25th, 2010 at 6:12 am
@cavalier777 my 3GS is running OS4 very well…no problems
July 25th, 2010 at 6:21 am
I have the same issue, even with only one site in safari a couple of notes (11), 2 mailboxes (I disabled exchange) and I reduced the number of apps, disabled notifications… You almost think they put speed up loop in this firmware (check thedailywtf . com speed up loops) when installed on a 3G
July 25th, 2010 at 6:27 am
sad true! i had the sema problem
July 25th, 2010 at 6:38 am
So true.
I have since purchased a Droid X and completely wiped my iPhone 3G… it now runs great… because I don’t use it for anything.
July 25th, 2010 at 7:07 am
iOS4 fucked my phone so much, it runs horribly and there are basically no new features other than adverts. Such a fucking disgrace, they should have just never given us the fucking update
July 25th, 2010 at 7:55 am
I had the OS 4 Beta on my 3G at WWDC and tried to explain the problems to the Apple engineers. They seemed surprised. Apparently nobody at Apple was really trying OS 4 on 3G. Obviously, they all have the latest and greatest iPhones in their pockets. I didn’t press the issue because I was planning on getting an iPhone 4 a few weeks later

The main thing that bugs me is that Steve told us all that we could have this on our 3Gs which, as we have all found out is a worse lie than “it doesn’t drop calls”. It took me five hours to get ios 3.1.3 back and everything working again! The crazy thing is that the things they say we can’t have on a 3G like background wallpapers and multitasking are all things that work fine if you jailbreak.
July 25th, 2010 at 8:32 am
Well done!
July 25th, 2010 at 9:29 am
i have these exact problems
July 25th, 2010 at 9:54 am
LOL GUYS THE ONLY APPLE HANDHELDS THAT HAVE ENOUGH RAM FOR iOS4 ARE THE 3rdGEN IPOD TOUCH and the iPHONE 4
